The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 (“Aadhaar Act 2016”) on 12 July 2016 by the Government. of India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The Aadhaar Act 2016 has been amended by the Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Act, 2019 (14 of 2019) w.e.f. 25.07.2019.
Prior to its establishment as a statutory authority, UIDAI was functioning as an attached office of the then Planning Commission (now NITI Aayog) vide its Gazette Notification No.-A-43011/02/2009-Admn.I) dated 28th January, 2009 Later, on 12 September 2015, the Government revised the Allocation of Business Rules to attach the UIDAI to the Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY) of the then Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
UIDAI was created with the objective to issue Unique Identification numbers (UID), named as “Aadhaar”, to all residents of India. The UID had to be (a) robust enough to eliminate duplicate and fake identities, and (b) verifiable and authenticated in an easy, cost-effective way. The first UID number was issued on 29 September 2010 to a resident of Nandurbar, Maharashtra. The Authority has so far issued more than 124 crore Aadhaar numbers to the residents of India.

How to validate digital signatures in e-Aadhaar?
Computer must be connected to internet while validating digital signature.
Right click on the 'validity unknown' icon and click on 'Validate Signature'
You will get the signature validation status window, click on 'Signature Properties'.
Click on 'Show Certificate.'
Verify that there is a certification path named 'NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatics centre'. This identifies 'NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatics centre' as the owner of the digital certificate that has been used while signing the document.
Mark the certification path named 'NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatics centre', click the 'Trust' tab and then 'Add to Trusted Identities'.
Answer 'OK' to any security question that follows.
Check (✔) the field for 'Use this certificate as a trusted root' and click 'OK' twice to close this and the next window.
Click 'Validate Signature' to execute the validation.
Note: – Once 'NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatics centre' has been as a Trusted Identity, any subsequent documents with digital signatures from CCA will be validated automatically when opened.

How to Download e-Aadhaar from DigiLocker Account?
DigiLocker has collaborated with the UIDAI to make it available to the cardholders on linking the DigiLocker account with Aadhaar. DigiLocker is a cloud-based platform for the issuance, storage, sharing and verification of documents and certificates in digital form which enables the selected registered organization to provide electronic or e-copies into 'digital lockers' allotted to citizens. Follow the below-mentioned steps to download Aadhaar from DigiLocker Account:
• Login to your DigiLocker account https://digilocker.gov.in/
• Click on “Sign In” button and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number
• Click on 'Verify' to get 'OTP'
• Enter the OTP received on your mobile number
• Click 'Verify OTP'
• 'Issued Document' page appears. Download 'e-Aadhaar' using 'Save' icon
How can you check where your Aadhaar is used?
• Open https://uidai.gov.in/ and under the 'My Aadhaar' drop-down, look below the 'Aadhaar Services' section and select 'Aadhaar Authentication History' option.
• On the redirected page, enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number along with the number shown in the CAPTCHA image. Then, click on the 'Send OTP' tab which will open the next page. You will also get a one-time password (OTP) on the registered mobile number through SMS.
• On the next page, the first option 'Authentication Type' is set as 'ALL' by default. The drop-down lets you filter to the specific type of authentication request such as demographic, biometric, OTP, etc. In the second option 'Select Date Range' you will need to manually select the dates from the drop-down. It must be noted that only the authentication done during the past six months are available in the database. Below that, in the third option 'Number of Records', you can check up to last 50 Aadhaar authentication records. And finally, in the OTP option, you will need to enter the OTP received on the SMS and click on 'Submit' tab which will open the next page.
• On the next page. You will be able to view the entire list of Aadhaar authentication requests. It shows all the places where your Aadhaar number has been used both successfully and unsuccessfully. The list can also be downloaded as a password protected PDF file. To open it, you need to enter the first four letters of the individual's name in upper case followed by their birth year.In case of any discrepancy in Aadhaar's usage, you must contact the UIDAI by calling 1947 or sending them an email at help@uidai.gov.in.
Under the Aadhaar Act 2016, UIDAI is responsible for Aadhaar enrollment and authentication, including operation and management of all stages of Aadhaar life cycle, developing the policy, procedure and system for issuing Aadhaar numbers to individuals and performing authentication and the security of identity information and authentication records of individuals.
1) Visit Self Service Update Portal (SSUP)
2) Select 'Proceed to update Aadhaar'
3) Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and 'CAPTCHA' code
4) Click 'Send OTP' to proceed
5) Enter one-time password sent to your registered mobile number with Aadhaar and hit 'Login'
6) Select the field you wish to update online from the following screen.
